This county is similar to neighboring Las Animas in terrain with treed mountain regions on the west side and open
plains extending to the east. Walsenburg is the county seat and the largest town, with others including Gardner,
La Veta, and Cuchara, the former ski village. There is abundant wildlife and this county is home to the
Lathrop State Park, a beautiful area containing Horseshoe Lake and Martin Lake. It's a nice place to sail, swim or fish.
Greenhorn Mountain is a rugged snowcapped peak at the north end of the county that can be seen for many
miles, as can the majestic Spanish Peaks. On a clear day, in places, Pikes Peak appears in the distance to the
North. This is also a very historic territory known for many wild west characters of the past including Kit Carson.
The county lies to the south of Pueblo County and to the southeast of Custer County. Huerfano County land
tends to be very reasonably priced especially for property along the front range and its proximity to the metro
areas.

Electrical power and phone service lines are close to many lots. The Sangre De Cristo Mountains lie to the
west and provide spectacular snowcap views.

location, amazing views, trees and other wonderful aspects of the area.
This Southern Colorado county is the largest by size covering mountain regions to the west of Interstate 25 and

Wildlife include elk, bighorn sheep, pronghorn antelope, black bear, mountain lions, mule deer, coyotes, fox,
eagles, hawks, ducks, geese, and many other bird species and small animals. Trinidad is the major town and
Weston, Aguilar, Model, Branson, Ludlow and Houghton are some of the smaller ones. Taos Ski Valley, New
Mexico is just a couple hours away. The historic Santa Fe Trail runs through the county and the whole area is
rich in history. Las Animas County land is extremely reasonable in price particularly for large acreages to the
